Thing #8 - RSS Week 4

glad to be introduced to the RSS feeds. Google reader was easy to navigate. Subscribed to several of my usual readings. This will be an asset to me during the schoolyear also.

THING #7- Week 3

excited about the technology training on WED. I will be learning the new gradebook online program and then teach others at school. Will be different from the GradeQuick we have been using. Real time and no uploading grades. Sounds good to me, huh, Judy?

Flickr- THING #5

It is an eyebrow raising experience to stop what you are doing and look at something such as Flickr that you have heard spoken about. You may have heard it in a conversation where you did not share in the person's experience. So, now , you have taken time to STOP and then take a long look. Uninterrupted time is precious to everyone. Therefore, one must take advantage of it when they can.
My day arrived. I browsed the words Flgkr, tags, groups. I admit I like the term Tagography. That is catchy. I found a group called CLASSROOM DISPLAYS. Now that is where I stopped. I JOINED Flickr as "teachercreaturegrade4". I even replied to a poll and posted a reply to the group. My next step is to upload a couple of my CLASSROOM displays to that group. Ahhhh, life is good. Flickr has arrived in my life. So today I added to my lifelong learning. Today has been productive. ~jan

Blog- THING #3 and #4

Here is the learning blog. It is registered so thing 3 and 4 are complete.

Learning Contract- THING # 2

You know I make contracts with students and take for granted that they know what I mean. I assume they understand what I want and are ready for such a commitment.
By making a learning contract for myself just now I realized it was apersonal commitment. And a commitment to myself which really strikes me as important. I wonder if my students (fourth graders) would take this as seriously as I just did or even more so? Am I putting undo stress on certain students? How do I know which ones will seriously participate ? How can I help they learn about commitments and responsibility to themselves. If they have never done such a contract what information do I need to give them to get started? I do have lots of questions I am asking myself right now. I am going to take conscious notes and respond in this journal/blog as much as possible so I can reflect again. That is a big word this year. In my science journals I will have to teach the kids to reflect.
